Students reflect on their moving trip to dallas for state convention
The month of June was buzzing with excitement as nine Groom FFA members boarded a route bus to make the long trip to Dallas, TX for State Convention.
"The air conditioner went out on the bus, so the ride was miserable," junior Morgan Trevino said.
Despite the heat, the members arrived with great excitement and energy.
"The officers were super sweet," District Officer Lauren Kuehler said," It was an honor to meet them and it inspires me to work harder."
Kuehler will be taking the reporter position on the District team for the 2016-17 year.
"Mrs.Whatley made us get up super early for the morning meetings, even when we didn't attend them all," Trevino said.
However, the early mornings didn't phase the group as they looked forward to the agenda for the day.
"On the first day, there was a speaker named Rick Rigbsy," freshman Hallie Thompson said," His message was amazing and it was my favorite part of the entire trip. He said, 'The way you do one thing is the way you do everything' and I found that very true."
The speeches weren't the highlight of the trip as sophomore Halle Barkley reflects. "My favorite part was the exhibits, they had everything from clothes to food."
On the way home, students made a pit stop at Principal Vanderpool's old college.
"It was pretty, and cool to see where our Principal had gone to school." Thompson said.
As students reflected on the trip they were faced with one question: Would they return? The question was answered without hesitation from Trevino.
"I would go back in a heartbeat."
